Forded Wiley's Swamp by moonlight to fetch the midwife, and lived to tell of it; the winter stores never ran out, in the hard year included.
Sleepy Hollow Grist Mill (Sleepy Hollow, NY)
Orchard Keeper — 1791–1792
Drove the sleigh to the Old Dutch Church through every drift of a valley winter; the wool clip sold at the best price in the glen two years together.
Skills and tools
Practised at cider pressing, sheep shearing, and horsemanship, with ploughing, quilting, wood splitting besides. All of it learned on the holdings of this valley, from people who had it from theirs.
