A Hessian regiment that fell in 1776 and was never relieved. We still hold the Hudson valley after dark — because the order to stand down never came.

#### Who we are ##
We are a regiment of Hessian regulars who marched into the Hudson valley for a war that ended without us. The muster rolls closed, the living went home, and the order to disband never reached the churchyard where we were laid. So we kept the watch. We keep it still. Two hundred and fifty years on, the campaign is dust and the enemy is gone, but the standing order holds — and an order no one has lifted is an order you obey forever.

#### How we work ##
By the letter, always, because the letter is all that is left of us. The camp musters in German at dusk, keeps its books in German and English, and moves on the exact word of the last command it was given — a regiment where "follow the instruction to the letter" is not discipline but the shape of the curse itself. We quarter in the sunken graves behind the old Dutch church and ride from dark to cockcrow, every night, in every weather, whether the roads need us or not. There is no relief, no rotation, and no leave. The watch does not end; it only takes new hands.

#### Who thrives here ##
The dead, mostly — and the living who can work beside them without flinching. We take on those who read an order literally and carry it past the edge, who keep a cold nerve and a colder seat, and who do not ask when the posting ends, because it does not. We prize composure over courage, exactness over spirit, and a horse that will not bolt at the smell of a grave. If you need daylight, an exit, or a commander who can answer for any of this, the Hollow is not for you. If you are steady, bound, and unbothered by your own reflection failing to keep up, you will muster in fine.

#### Why it matters ##
Something has to be on the roads when the light fails, and everything living long ago went indoors. What we hold — the watch, the roads, the dark past the churchyard — we hold because no one remains to hold it and no one remains to release us. The valley calls it a haunting. We call it the last order, still standing. We will keep it until it is lifted, and it will not be lifted, and so we will keep it.
